Which is the best reflector for spreading light from a metal halide? Lumen Max Elite, Lumen Bright, Lumen Arc mini or another that would be less then 30X20.

Thanks,
Colin

If it is about spreading - NO reflector is best, just a flat polished surface.

Reflectors are to focus light...

I would say lumen arc but then lumen max elite last would be lumen bright.

I have owned lumen max elite & lumen bright never tried an lumen arc because I thought it spread the light too much which cut your par output.

Joe out of the 2 which do you like better?

Also does anyone have any par readings on these fixtures?

Which ones best will depend on what dimensions you are trying to light and how much room you have above the tank. The Lumen Arc mini and Lumen Arc III reflectors will give you more dispersion. The Lumenmax and Lumenmax elite will give a little less dispersion, will fit into tighter confines and give you a little more PAR. The Lumenbright mini and Lumenbright give a much more focused light so you will get the best PAR but not anywhere close to the dispersion you'll get with the others. The PAR you get will also depend on your bulb/ballast combo.

Here's a great article on Lumenbrights and he's done some comparison with Lumen Arcs and standard reflector.

If you read to the end, you will see on of our local reefers contributed to the story.

REmember that you can put a lumen bright much higher up then other reflectors and get very good PAR readings. DOn't buy into the 'spotlight' talk.

Spotlight schmotlight. Read how they are supposed to be hung and you'll LOVE the LB's. BUT this truly all depends on how much room you have to work with...as well as the dims on the tank. If you don't mind a taller canopy, and want high PAR...these are for you.

I never understood how a square reflector dipersed light evenly from an elongated bulb. So I made my own lumen arc style reflectors that are elongated like the bulb. Before anyone chimes in with the bulb only burns in the center true but the light leaves the tube elongated much like the tube's shape

Oh come on....you mean you're going to tell us about these reflectors and not post pics!?!?!?! BOOOO! But seriously...I'm interested in seeing them :)

I have 3 LumenArcs Mini on my 125 and I love them. I got the mini because my tank is narrow. I could never understand how a round reflector works on a rectangular tank...

I will be building some for EnderG60"s new tank very soon and will post pics of them.Due to the way my canopy is designed, I really can't get a good shot of them. Iwill try to get something and start a thread for others to post how theirs are setup as well.

Well it looks like I will have to put this on pause until i get my new tank and figure out the setup. I appreciate everyones advice and i'll revive this thread when I need.

I've heard rumors of a lighting expert coming to a meeting in the near future... But it's just a rumor. Not a very credible source.
