Mine is reading off the high end of the kit so I am not sure why the levels are, at what point is it too high, and is there any way to bring it down?

I think people were/are using high magnesium to defeat bryopsis and had levels of 1600 or more in some cases to do that. What does your test kit max out at?

As with most things a few waterchanges should help it come down.

My question would be how did it get so high? I would definitely check with a different test kit or LFS. Which kit did you use and what's the max reading?

Using a Red Sea Test kit I would get 15-1600 readings. When i got a Trident, my reading were in the 12-1300. In order to get into the 14s I started dosing Mg via a Neptune dose...something like 20 ml a day. Until I got it into the 14-1440 range. I typically hover around 1415.

I regularly keep mine in the 1500's. Reefers keep in in the 1700's to get rid of Bryopsis. In order to get it down, you really just need to let the tank use it. I would get another test kit and test it again, to see which reading is correct, the Trident, or the RS. Maybe even have another reefer, or LFS test it.

I was manually dosing AFR for a while, but I stopped it almost 2 weeks ago, that would be the only thing I can think of that got it so high. Picking up a Trident today, we'll see what that says.
