Mh light question?

i have 2 250watt mh that i am going to build a canopy and put over my 50 gallon how far off the water do i need to have them??

depends on if you have a chiller. If you have a fan, you can get fairly close, 8" or maybe a bit less. Nothing, go HIGH. Chiller you can probably get down to the surface.

no i wont be running a chiller but what about the kind of light bulb do i need to be using and do i have to use anyother style light other than the mh

Also depends on what color spectrum bulbs you have.

I have 3 - 250W Blueline 10K halides which are similar in color to 20K's but I do also have 2 - T12 VHO actinic bulbs which really turn the tank a deep blue.

Really too blue for my taste.
