Would a bad MH try to fire up at all? I have one that works fine and one that just tries to fire up and stops. Sometimes it will try to fire every 3 to 5 min. It sounds like a bad wire, but I'm just a Bubba that knows nothing about electricity except where to plug in the hot rollers. Thanks, Bubba

Could be the bulb or could be the ballast. Switch the bulbs around an see if the problem follows the bulb.

<span style="font-size: 13px;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">What elFloyd said. What kind of ballast is it? May not be the entire ballast just the starter or capacitor.</span></span>

+1. If the problem follows the bulb, your bulb is bad. If the same ballast does the same thing to the other bulb, then the ballast is probably bad and needs fixed/replaced.

Did all the tests and it is the ballast. BUT...I picked the ballast up and moved it around and the light worked. We are going out of town for 10 days and I hate to leave the tank with a iffy ballast. How and where do I get another 250 before Friday afternoon? Bubba

Some of our ARC Sponsors would have them in stock. Call around tomorow.

You might also not have a bad a ballast but a loose wire. Did you make sue the connections from the ballast to the light are good? Sometimes, the metal tab on the bottom of the mogul socket can get depressed and only have intermittent contact with the bulb. you can pull up a bit on this tab with a knife blade or the like, with the ballast uplugged, of course.

A general check on all your light wire connections might be worth it.

We switched everyting every which way and it is the ballast. Another Odessa product from Aqua traders....I have read that after you replace the ballasts they are pretty good....not when I'm leaving town. Just wrote Rit, bought some corals from him last week, If he can send me one he will have a real steady customer. Bubba

I don't know if Rit stocks ballasts? Check with him, but I think he specializes in corals more than drygoods.
