I've got a medium sized BRT that has some MHLLE showing on its eyes. It's not that bad, but I don't want it to get worse---Other than vitamins and good water quality, any other suggestions?? Is it something that will cure itself if I provide it vitamins, or will the vites just not let it get any worse??

feed it. keep it fat and let nature take its course. there's no real reason for the cause outside of "stress" and the only solution is a high quality diet.

Tangs are grazers... they swim around the reef and graze all day. although omnivorous, they are predominantly herbivores. selcon soaked nori is always good and so is phyto gut loaded live artemia.

i have no experience with pellet foods but there are plenty of good reviews for some on the market like spectrum.

I've been feeding mainly prime reef and green algae flakes; I also include (few times per month) mysis, squid, seaweed sheets

oh, I do (occaisionally) soak in selcon--honestly, I haven't like I should the past couple months--how often should I be soaking the food?

Feed it nori everyday until it gets better. Works wonders for tangs. You can go to Publix at the sushi section for a packk-5 large sheets for $1.89.

Post a pic. Pacific blue tangs do have obvious pores around their eyes in particular. How big is this guys. How bad is the pitting?

i've seen some pretty large gashes on blue tangs. it's almost always "stress" related (even though the word "stress" is really vague).

i tried to treat two blue tangs, one adult, one juvi. the adult never fully recovered and the juvi is recovering now. it's taking a really, really long time...

weekly soaked in selcon. high HUFA foods is good for fishes.

"Adding vitamins and highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) to the food can help fish to recover from stress (Kraul et. al, 1993; Ako et al., 1994)."

The point I asm trying to make is that he may not have HLLE at all. I dont know without seeing it. In the pic below (which I stole from Melevsreef.com), you can see these typical "pores" around the eyes. This is not HLLE.

FWIW, there is no definitive cause or cure for HLLE. Just as likely as it may be vitamins, water condition, whatever, it just as likely might be aliens, as far as we know.

not black pores... large gashes around the eyes. because my juvi is almost recovered, i doubt i can get a GOOD photo of it. The adult has passed...

like i said, it's "stress" related. the word "stress" in this hobby is relative. One of the solutions seems to be a high quality diet.
