Added a Hi Fin goby and Tiger Pistol shrimp to my 24g AIO over the weekend. Its been great and they paired up on the first night.

But sometime between 4pm and 9pm yesterday, one of my two clowns (gladiator) went completely missing.

I checked the rockwork, overflows, and all around the tank (no lid) but no sign of him anywhere.

I didn’t think the pistol shrimp would kill him (and eat him that quickly) but is there a chance that’s what happened? Or anyone experience the same?

I checked the goby/shrimp den and there was no sign of him and I’d be surprised if he ate him that quickly. Unless he’s buried somewhere that I didn’t uncover.

At this point I’ve chalked him up to being a goner, just trying to figure out what could’ve happened to prevent it for the future.

No ammonia spike yet either….

Details on the tank:
- fish: one black snowflake clown, hi fin goby
- inverts: one pistol shrimp, 5 blue legs, 5 astreas, 5 nassarius
- corals: GSP rock, small acan frag, two headed hammer
- other: all dry rock so no hitchhikers unless they came in via live sand

There's a good chance the clown is somewhere outside the tank in my opinion if the fish cannot be found. The tiger pistol shrimp would be an opportunist if the clown died in the tank for some reason, but I think an unlikely suspect for now. I had an open top tank also and it cost me 3 fish over two years before I covered it, so I would suggest investing in a screened cover for peace of mind.

Yeah, that’s what I’m leaning towards as well. Clown was totally healthy at the feeding right before he went missing, so I doubt he randomly died that quickly.

Just kills me that I can’t find any sign of a body anywhere. And want to make sure I’m not going to be down two clowns due to a new inhabitant.

Are you hearing it make a lot of noise at night? Loud clicking. That’s it firing, has that and noticed mine was picking off hermits s as numbers were reducing. Like others said most likely not the culprit but could be an opportunist.

FINALLY solved the puzzle (unintentionally).

He did jump and was wedged under a bookshelf dried up.

My hi fin goby is missing today. I was about ready to pull the shrimp out of the tank for victim #2 when I stumbled upon the clown.

Now let’s just hope the goby is extra spooked today and hiding…..
