Today was the day! I ordered 21 Mangroves from Pacific Seed. It is an Ebay store. Shipping was about a week and they came bundled fairly well. I gave them a FW rinse then added them to the Mangrove forest in my Fuge. Now in 1000000 years I will be able to remove the Styrofoam and add some fish to swim through the roots. Enjoy the pics.

thats gonna be so cool when you see fish swimming in the roots.

Oh man, those are in much better shape than I thought. Were there any dead ones that arrived? After this crazy work week and I get back from Ohio, we'll chill.

Alan...send me the link to where you bought those. I think it's time to add some mangroves to the mix!

What are the benefits of the mangroves? Do they basicall function like a macro, reducing nitrates/phosphates? Do you use them in conjunction with a macro.

Also, why would it take a million years to have mangrove roots in your sump? They grow very slowly?

I bought the same mangroves from that guy in hawaii. Out of the 21, I had 4 that never grew. It is still green at the stem though so I am just gonna let it stay there..However its been a month or two and I think it may have grown 1/2 inch.

Are there special techniques in taking care of them or lightings? I have power compact.

Perfect bro! Yea when you get back we can chill plus I need to see that new phone :)

Here are my instructions on taking care of Mangroves. This came directly from my blog

Instructions for planting Mangroves:
-Find a Mangrove source. I like Pacific Seeds from EBAY.
-When Mangroves come in give them a FW rinse
-Get a Styrofoam square and drill a hole in it just big enough for the Mangrove to fit snug not tight
-work the mangrove up to the brown part on the shaft. Make sure 75% of the plant is out of the water.
-Place the Mangroves in the water.
-I use a 150 HQI metal Halide 10K for lighting.
-Make sure you can't feel the heat of the bulb on top he leaves. If you do then you will burn the leaves.
-Buy a mister bottle and fill with RODI water. Mist the leaves and shaft once a day to remove salt creep and keep the leaves clean.
-In the future you may need to add liquid Iron to the water for the Mangroves.
-Once the roots are buried in the sand enough to support the plant then remove the Styrofoam and enjoy.

liquid iron? BAHH, I just dip my rusty coral snippers in the water every now and then ;)

Alan, out of curiosity why 10K instead of 6500? I would think that a daylight spectrum would be preferable.

That's what the fixture came with. When I change out the bulb I'ill go with a 65K.
