I have a 5.5 gal nano tank full of montipora, all if my branching one have full polyp extention while my plating montis aren't doing so great, it seems like the edges of them are turning a little white, I see polyps but it looks like around the edges the color is receding. Could this be caused by phosphates? I am having a sudden bloom of algea, but wouldn't it be harming my branching montis too?

hmmm..
Keep in mind that the growth edges of coral will normally be a little faded, maybe that's what you're seeing?

I think a pic would help :)

All of the corals are frags and I just got them. I would post a pic but I don't think the camera would pic it up.

I just did about a 40% Water change, so things should be lowered a bit. Because my calcium was way high wouldn't that mean my alk would be high too?

I think things might have gotten out of line by me feeding them alittle to much. I feed reefsnow, is there any other foods out their for sps coral that are good?

I would discontinue using the Reef Snow for a while. Your system is very small so dosing of any kind must be done with extreme care. Sufficient lighting and proper nutrient levels will go a long way. Water changes are your best friend with your system and IMO is all that you will need to build a successful system.

Ok thanks. I haven't noticed any rapid tissue loss or color fading, so things shouldn't be too bad. I will stop the feeding and just do weekly water changes and see how things go from there.

A montipora eating nudi also turns edges white first. Eats the flesh from the edge in. They are white small and hard to see. Just throwing out as a possibility.

Don't think it's monti eating nudis cuz I have thought that also. I have look at my corals everynight with a flashlight to see and I see nothing. I dipped my corals and scrubbed with a toothbrush the plugs they were attached to. So I don't think it's nudis
