Ive noticed that the growth rate on my monticaps have really taken off since dosing two-part. Other sps, not as impressive. Is it possible that these larger caps are not sharing the "good stuff". Colors on everything look great, just not the vertical growth id like to see? Thanks

What else are you keeping? some corals (moni's included) just grow fast. What were your levels before dosing? What are they at now?

Ill be honest here, I dont really test anything but salinity. Im OCD about water changes, but I realize this practice of non-testing should change. I guess if the caps grow quicker, they naturally absorb more calcium/carbonate. I just notice that my sps acros and such grow across the rocks more than they grow up.

pearlberry, pinkLemonade, tri color, red planet, no name purple blue tip, and prob some others im not thinking of.

What kind of food do you feed them and how often?

Some I know grow slower but someone with a lot more experience hopefully chime in and tell you which Acros grow slower than others. Montis grow a lot faster for sure!

A lot of growth also depends on the type of structure the corals take on.

Big D noted that the Red Planet grows out and not up - that's because it's a tabling acro. It will spread outward before it grows upward, that's the nature of the coral. Once it gets wider, it will grow up, somewhat, but it's a shorter grower, and more of a wider one, versus one that grows tall and "leggy".

Caps do grow quickly in my observation, that's also their nature.

If you aren't testing your parameters, it's impossible to say "why" some seem to be growing faster etc., other than what they do normally. If your calcium/magnesium is low, then it's possible that the hardier Caps are taking up more of the resources, and the acros don't have as much "available" to them.

if possible grab you a good ca and alk test kit and test a few days after your water changes to make sure your levels stay at the correct level. Honestly I NEVER tested either until about a year ago when I started doing SPS (and really things were fine), but once I started keeping things in optimal range growth really took off quickly. After a few times it won't be such a pain to test, and you can burn through the proceedure in 2 or 3 mins.

This hits on something Eric borneman says in his fragging demo. Marginal growth seems to be faster. This is also the reason you see people mount SPS on there side. Something to think about is monti's and the red planet both tend to have more marginal growth and they are both fast growers.
