Do you think 2 mp10s would be enough for a 100 gallon tank? It is a LARGE step up to 2 mp40s. I want flow from all directions and that seems the best way to do it. I want to use a controller and the Eco-techs work well with them too.
Thanks,
Bill

I would go with 2 Mp40s for a 100g. I have 2 on my 90g and really like them.

Check your glass thickness, the MP10's might not stay on if it is too thick.

+1, MP10s per Ecotech are up 3/8 inch thick glass.

They will stay on a 100 gallon but what causes them to fall is the fact that the mp10 is at full speed and kind of 'shakes' itself off the glass. So as noted, youd be better with two mp40s or 20s if you can find them

THe Mp10s are good up to 3/8" thickness. My acrylic is 1/2" thick on mine. 20's would be nice but they are very hard to find and 2 grand for the pumps with the battery backup is really steep...

It's only 1300 new for 2 mp40 and 2 battery backup. And lots of folks are selling used.

MP-10's would be too small for that tank.

2 MP-40's would be the way to go. You can dial them down to control the flow which is far better than running them WFO which makes a lot of noise. Additionally, when you get into the Vortech pumps, you have to consider that it's not all about GPM for flow, it's about watching what is happening in the tank. I have a 40 on my 60 cube and also run a K3 koralia to keep good flow all over the tank. I considered adding a second MP40 or an MP10 to supplement, but right now it's too expensive.

But again, you would be looking at 2 MP-40's on a 100. Not MP-10's.

I have heard that they can be a little loud so throttling them back some sounds like a great idea.
Now I need to save up the 1100.00 for them....

I have mine set at about 75%(maybe a little less) and I am getting nice flow and after a day of running them my wife doesn't even notice the noise. I tried running them a little higher, but it was blowing my sand around. Nothing terrible, but just left me with some low spots in the middle of the tank.
