I bought this little tank just to grow frags and keep my favorite zoa rock away from the inverts in my larger tank.

Cool! You can do water changes with a Dixie cup. :) I've thought about setting up a little ten gallon grow out tank. What kind of light are you running on it? 400W Radium?

I couldnt get the picture of the whole tank to load for some reason, but those are a few pics of some of my frags.

I'm not sure what the lights are. I am wanting to change the lights out, but for now it's whatever comes stock on the JBJ nano-cube. The moon light is very weak. I'm trying to figure out how I can change the bulbs and what I can fit without messing anything up.

All of them were in my other tank under a T5, but they seem to open wider and grow faster under the lights in this tank. I'm thinking they like this tank better because it stays between 4 and 5 degrees warmer than the other tank.

That makes sensse being not so variable.

Be careful, small water volume= violant swings. If something goes wrong it goes bad wrong. I had my 14 gal cube setup as a frag tank but I took it down bc I was scared of it.

I am hearing this more and more from a lot of people. I try and run test on it if not everyday at lease every other day. So far I have been checking the ammonia everyday, and doing water changes once a week. Beside testing what are some other signs that things might be taking a turn for the worse?

as long as you are testing frequently for the important elements, cal, mag, trate, trite, alk,ph,sal you should be ok, you should be able to establish consumption rates and dial in your paramaters. temp it a big worry for me in small water vol systems. just say your at work and for some reason you temp climbes to dangerouse levels, it dosent take very long to wipe out a small system. like i said bf, if you have a swing of some sort it will most likely be violant bc of the small water vol.

I'm actually glad you brought that up I was about to make a post about it.. Im seeming to have a problem with my temp. Today it reached a little above 84. the corals look great, but im worried about algae taking over if it stays around there. What can I do to bring the temp down? Do I need a chiller?

No chiller needed for such a small tank. Northern tool has 4" 12v fans for like 6$. All u need is a 12v adapter. Can get them anywhere, walmart, radio shack. You prob have one already and don't know it. Anything that plugs in and converts to 12v dc. Like phone chargers. Just be sure to read The charger and make sure it's 12v output. Place the fans so they blow down on the water passing over a baffle or an area with flow. You will need to put them on a timer to try to control the temp bc they should chill the tank very well. Gimme a call and I'll help you out. 678-343-8958

Have you had any problems with the temperature getting too high?

No it stays around 78.5 to 79 degrees. The biggest thing is evoporation I have an auto top off I will be installing this weekend.

Mine was staying above 82, 83. So I filled little ziplock snack bags with distilled water and froze them. and every so often throw one in the back of the tank where the filter and whatnot is..It seems to be working I got it at 79 now..

Here is an updated photo of my little zoa garden.

You need to check the polarity as well and make sure the neg/positives are correct (outside vs. inside) on the plug -
