There is gold coraline. The spots on the sand just look like you need more flow

That's a lot of water to be changed every week. That may be part of the problem.

Using RO/DI?

Are you sure those arent flatworms? That bright orange color is reminsicent of that to me. The only time Ive seen coraline that color have been when it was in near dark conditions (ie- after a rock or coral is moved, and the totally obscured rok is now visible. But it usually only lasta day or so in reef lighting.

I don't think it's either... but Jeremy you're right sometimes clusters of flatworms look a bit like that. To me though, the patches look to solid to be a cluster, and there are none on the periphery of those patches, nor can I see any on the corals.

Initially I thought maybe sponge - there are encrusting sponges that look something like that but there is too much of it for me to think it's sponge (so I didn't mention it).

Seems to be photosynthetic as all of the patches face up, toward the light.

Perhaps a closer shot of that substance?

I don't see any turf algae.

that's what I don't understand, I can't keep the sand on the bottom of the tank beacuse there is alot of flow (4900 GPH), but the tank look like there is not enough flow.

I started doing this about three weeks ago, because pf the algea problem

Rich,

I think I have the same orange/gold stuff you have on some of my pieces of rock as well....I will try to post a photo to see if they are the same, having camera issues right now....Anyway, I have had it for 6 months now and have not seen any ill effects from it but I do not have near as much coverage on my rock as you do on yours. Mine doesn't seem spread, but in direct light.

Nice corals though....let me know if you frag any of those. :D

ok, thanks

I upgraded my lights to T5's back in February(09), since then I keep getting bubbles on the rocks, there was alot of the same algea in the fuge, so I took it off line for about 6 weeks now, I read an article about another reefer had the same problem and he solved it by massive water changes for 5 months, not sure if that will work for me. Is there a thing as too much water changes
