So I head into the garage to mess with some motorcycle stuff.

I hear what sound like running water, so off to the basement I go.

Wow....my RO unit is hosing water. The 2nd stage (5 micron) filter looks like it's been cross threaded in. Ok, I shut off the water, and proceed to crank on that thing to get it out.

The plastic housing's threads are broken off in the screw cap.

Interesting. Even more so is that the first stage filter is nasty dark looking. I happen to have an extra housing laying around, so I refill the 2nd stage, and change out stage 1.

Turn on the water, and I can hear the waste water tube just running away.

The shut off valve tries to shut down the water, but starts vibrating madly. I bet the vibration caused the threads to fail, or at least help out.

OK, so now this is the second shut off valve I've had to replace. First one was worn out (6 years)....but this one is 8 months old.

My TDS meter says 47ppm in, and 11 ppm out.....it's normally 0 ppm out.

Could my RO membrane be so clogged, that the outlet pressure isn't enough to have the shut off valve close completely, which is causing the pulsing/vibration? The membrane is now ~12 months old, and obviously needs to be replaced due to the high TDS output.

I wish I had some water pressure gauges....:(

Thoughts?
