Don't know what it is..just noticed it on the back of a rock by the sand. Just noticed it when looking down when flow stopped.

Looks like montipora spongodes
Spongodes is a good call if it's hard. My first thought was that it was some sort of algae. I've had something similar in my tank and I'm curious if you've touched this or if you even can given it's location. If it does have a hard skeleton, spongodes. If it's not rigid, google "dictoya" and you'll see what I'm talking about. My guess is it's dictoya.
Ok, I've been sitting patiently all day @billyocean Stick your hand in there and see what it is. The suspense is getting to me.
