Does anyone have a Mystery Wrasse in with any Fairy or Flasher Wrasses? I know they are in the same family as the lined wrasses but I have read that unlike lined wrasses they would get along with fairies and flashers. However, yesterday I was able to pick one up at Tim's fantastic sale and I put it in a 29G QT that has sand and live rock and an existing Red-finned Wrasse and they do not seem like they are going to get along. Is it because of the small tank or will this be a problem next month when I add it to the 120G?

Fairies & flashers are as good as dead when in the same tank as a mystery. I thought my tank would prove to be the exception due to the size; I was wrong, very, very, $500+ in wrasse-loss wrong.

You could always try the Pictures of same species trick to get him to calm down. But that may only work in a larger aquarium. My Mystery leaves my potters wrasse alone but they are different Genus and species. Jin the Wrasse whisperer used the picture trick to house many wrasses of the same genus but as the name implies he was the wrasse whisperer.

Delaney.

The Red-finned made it through the day and night ok. This morning I used fish line to attach 5/16th netting over egg crate to make a divider and now have them on separate halfs of the 29G QT. I still need to figure out what I'm going to do next month when they are ready to come out of the QT.

Good luck Bud, if you need to get ride of the mystery wrasse........ :-) The fish is absolutely beautiful!! If you need to sell the fairy let me know. I have two in QT from Tim right now, the ones that you saw me purchase. They are doing absolutely wonderful. My pink chromi is picking on all of the new fish though. I may need to do something with him, not sure yet.

I'm not going to get rid of it, I've wanted one for far too long for that. I just need to decide if I want to take the remaining flashers out of the 120G and put him there or leave the flashers and put him in my anemone tank.

His size reference was to the fact that the Mystery Wrasse killed all his flasher/fairy wrasses even in his huge tank. My anemone tank is a 30G breeder and will only have one other fish in it which is a Lawnmower Blenny. The Mystery Wrasse won't bother with it at all.

Here's a picture of the Mystery Wrasse:

That is the ugliest fish I have ever seen. There is no way I would put that in your beautiful 120 or even the nem tank. Better give it to me and I'll take care it for u.

Seriously dude, sorry to hear they are not getting along. Good luck.

:) Yeah, my mystery was a biggun!

He left my fairies alone for the most part, but picked them off one at a time over time. I caught him in the act as I started losing them. He took out a school of P. cyanis..they were soooo cool too.

He had very expensive taste in food as well. One flaming prawn goby, down the tubes...

Sorry, I misunderstood. It will be in a 30G breeder which is 36" long with just one other fish, a lawnmower blenny.

You would do that for me? What a guy!

They really like to pick at and swim in and out of rock just like a six-line wrasse which is the same genus. Very methodical hunters. When I'm not actively QTing, this tank is connected to my system and acts as another refugium and was a stomatella snail factory. The first day whenever the Mystery Wrasse wasn't chasing the Red-finned Wrasse he was hunting and eating stomatellas.

Do you know their swim pattern? Do they like a lot of space top to bottom, or side to side? I can't remember how big Raj's Mystery was, but I remember thinking it was the biggest one I'd ever seen.

It must have been a full grown adult since the book says 4.7 inches for them.
