I have a hermit crab who is walking around without is shell
I assume I need to get him a bigger shell? How often do you have to do this? I didn't think they would grow out of them very fast.

I also put in an emerald crab after the meeting Tuesday but have not seen him, day or night. Do they usually hide a lot? I guess if he died I would detect it.

....and where is a good place to buy bigger shells? Mine are getting big for their britches too!

I put an emerald crab in my tank a few weeks back and the same thing happened. I saw him for the first few seconds after putting him in the tank and havent seen him since.

The hermit crab is obviously drunk and confused. I guess he had too many and cant find his car LOL

I bought a bag of shells at Michaels (spelling of store maybe off). You get a bunch of shells various sizes for a couple of dollars. I just boiled them and put them in. I did have to capture one hermit and trim the 2 inch kenya tree that was growing on it, he didn't move around to much without taking a break. lol

CBA has them sometimes and the real big ones you can get at the new petco on 41 down by mars hill

thing to remember about shells....its not necessairly the bulky side of the shell as much as it is the opening. I know some lfs sell them, so when you're looking for new shells, pick ones that have larger openings. Your hermits will thank you. And I doubt the hermit ditched his shell, it was most likely taken from him.

i just checked again and all my hermits are present and accounted for.... and not naked :yay:
but i think two of them traded shells cause they looks different......
guess ill throw some new shells in there for their choosing.

I've never had to add shells for my hermits..........but I have noticed fewer and fewer snails in my tank.........hmmmmmmm.....:shades:

Ive gone from 50 astrea snails and 20 blue legs in my tank too something like 20 astreas and 20 blue legs. get the picture?

I bought a bunch of shells at Optimum Aquarium and that has helped quite a bit but they really seem to like those astrea shells.
