I am fixing to start adding sps and needing to upgrade the lighting on my 28gal nano cube. I'm thinking of going with AI prime 16 or 32 light, but I do not want to lose the lid. Has anyone installed one of these lights inside the lid? If so would 1 work or would I need 2?

Any advice welcome.

Thanks ahead.

They make a replacement hood, but can't find much specs on lighting temperature control. If anyone has info on that it would be helpful as well.

Post a picture of your setup so we can see what you are working with in terms of lid, height, etc.

Sorry for long response time.

  • Tank Dims: 18” x 22” x22” high.
  • Lid Dims: 20.25" x 21.88" x 1.5" high

I'm worried that if I were to gut the lid and install AI 32 or 64 inside that would create a laser beam and fry everything. I'm very proficient at electrical, soldering, etc... so I could replace ballasts and led lights if that would be a better option to keep the hood on the tank.

Best option is a steves led upgrade if you want to keep the hood. Ive seen people cut the hood and mount an AI on the top. It loses some of the spread but I think you will be ok
