Im considering putting a 24" fixture on a 20x20 30 gallon tank....

Anyone have a 20" T5 out there? I need to do something soon

Thanks

Great Price!!!!!!

Not certain that would be enough light for ya, unless T-5s do a MUCH better job than CF per watt.

I put my 48 watt dual CF fixture on my 30 cube and the light was a milky yellow, and not nearly enough.

That 36 watt fixture would look nice above your tank, but it's only 36 watts

The 48watt fixture will hang over both sides an inch or two.

If you get it, let me know how it works out for ya! I might get one and retire the 150 watt MH clamp-on

Heck, on second though, those prices are so low you could buy two 20" fixtures and the both would fit on your tank. That would be 72 watts of t-5 light, which would be plenty!

I have a used 20" CF quad 96 Watt Coralife fixture in my consignment pile.

Needs a used lamp but it works - I've tested it.

They do, one of the benefits of them.

But would 36 watts of T-5 be enough to light a 30g Oceanic Cube? That was the matter in question. If so, I think I'll order one now!!!!!!!

Probably not, but it will provide more useable light than 48w CF over the same tank. I thought you were going with a tank that didn't require intense lighting?

Well this is Russ' thread, I was just sounding off on that great deal.

My palys and zoas wont open under the phoenix bulb, so I'd say it is far from intense... LOL.

As far as having a low light tank myself, I re-aquascaped and have plenty of room for shade loving lps, so maybe I can have both if I was to go with two 36 watt T-5 fixtures, maybe only needing one and keeping a spare....

Sorry to thread jack. To the OP, 2 of those fixtures should provide sufficient lighting provided you aren't looking to do a full blown SPS reef. It should allow for some SPS in the top of the tank.

I just picked up a 20x20 cube, think I might order me some of those fixtures if I can't find a good deal on a halide I like.

you can barely buy new lamps for the price of a new light[/QUOTE]

Unfortunately, I read this review of that light;

This light fixture is great and at the best price around. These T5's are a huge step up from my pc's. My only complaint is that the legs dont extend out long enough for the fixture to fit on a 10 gallon aquarium. I had to improvise and use egg-crate to position the fixture on my aquarium.
**************

We both have an Oceanic 30g cube and they are equally as long as a standard 10g, so to use this light, you'd need to come up with a different way to hang it over the tank, other than using the legs.

No worries on thread jacking...more the merrier...

Other than a RBTA and 3-4 fish I will mostly have softies and lps...Ive never been a SPS kinda guy but a small clam again would be nice...I may use the compact I have now and put on the T5 from linens and things until I drop 229 on a fixture I found that would even allow SPS if I wanted to down the road...

Wow Russ, we'll have virtually the same tank AND collection of livestock......

Yeah but yours is drilled :( I had to get mine up and running before Kevin picks up the 92 friday...I have no concerns with my prizm skimmer though I just need some light...my rbta isnt real happy and my gps kinda in a way wants to come out...needs more oooooomph

Mine aint drilled......... That over flow leads no where but to a Tunze about 4" above the sand bed. That's the only circulation in the tank.

Youcan't drill the bottom of an Oceanic Cube, they are tempered.

AHHHHHHHH ok...then i dont feel as bad lol

ill post pics tonight...the lighting sucks though
