I got a 30g cube I'm working on very tall stand just eyeballing it looks like I need a head height of about 4 to 5 feet from sump to return. It came with a quiet one pump but the pump was very underpowered and the sump was actually sitting on a plastic stand to compensate.

I was thinking a mag7 may do yhr trick buy not sure so thought I would ask

I got a Deep Blue Titan pump from Jenn and have been very happy with it. It uses less wattage than a comparable Mag and is also pretty quiet. I got the 5 but a much smaller one would work for you.

In basically the exact same setup, I use a Mag 5 and it does fine. When/if it croaks, I'll probably replace it with an Eheim or maybe a Quiet One for noise/heat/efficiency reasons.

That Pump it came with worked fine for me. Sure the pump isnt clogged or the Valve is closed?

I will have to double check I just know how it was setup when I got it was not running adequate

I've got a Triton 5 and a Mag 12 running side by side, each feeding a single return on my 125. Even though the manufacturers claim similar performance curves, the Mag 12 moves at least twice as much water. I'd take Deep Blue's ratings with a gain of salt, or two, and compare the Triton 5 to a Mag 9 or even 7, in which case, you should probably just go with the Mag. I also like the Eheim 1262.

Ok so it turns out I don't need a pump. As stated before when I first picked up the tank the water trickled out of the return like it was underpowerd. I decided last night to just use the pump until I could spend the money on another.

Well I got everything how I wanted it and hooked it up and the pump was running so hard that it was out running the overflow now I gotta go get a ball valve so I can throttle it back.

Come to find out the person I got it from before had put a filter sock over the intake of the pump to slow it down. Lol now I feel like a genious.

I'm not sure who did what or when Kris but when I got the tank it had no ball valve on it. I have always ran one on the return anyway but its been so long since I've been reefing that it totally slipped my mind.

Only thing I can think of is that it got lost in the mist of whoever helped em set it up. I now you had delivered it origianlly? But it no biggie I can go get a ball valve from my stock at home

Hmm Maybe Mike changed all the Plumbing to it. The tank was set up perfect when i sold it to him.

He likes to change thigns lol

Yah lol... I know what u mean. I will post some new pics ones I get all the bugs worked out
