Need advice on plumbing issue

I just set up my 55gal tank and was just pumping clear saltwater for some days to check for leaks (which I found :yuk: ), now the skimmer was not connected (no livestock - no protein, I thought).

The current setup uses one corner overflow into a pro-clear 100 sump - right now a submergible pump (model ?) takes it from there back into the tank.

The skimmer is an Excalibur (250, I'd guess) and operates with another submersible pump in its bottom.
The skimmer does not fit in the sump due to its size.

How would I connect the skimmer in this set-up?

Using another sump, connected with an overflow?
Better ideas?

Excalibur manufactured both in sump and HOB skimmers (Do you have a pic of the skimmer?). If it's the HOB you can hang it either off the tank or the sump.
