Still haven't quite grasped the dosing concept yet. I just picked up my Mg test kit, so that completes the major test kits I need.

My problem is with understanding my tanks consumption rates and how it relates to what I need to dose. I started out by dosing seachem Ca and Alk powdered supplements, but I'm not sure if I like using them. I'd like to try a 2part system but honestly don't understand how the concept works, so I've just been doing wc's to upkeep levels.

What is the best, easiest, low-cost, entry level way to start dosing my system appropriately. Any important info on using kalk, maybe?

Check your calcium and alk daily for a week or so. If your calcium and alk drop approx the same amount daily (as stuff grows there will be more consumption) you can figure your needed dose.

Brs has a starter dosing kit and a online calculator to figure your dose.

Read this it will explain alot

once you get magnesium to where you want, say 1250, that isn't something that needs a lot of dosing to maintain.

Your creatures use Calcium, and your Tank depletes Alk, so dosing is to maintain your "numbers" or, in some cases, increase it until you get where you want, then, maintain.
