I have a older 25 IL model that I'm trying to get working and I'm not sure what needs replacing. When I plug it up you can see the bulb flashing trying to come on but will not stay on.Do you think its the ballast, bulb or starter that's bad?Does any one know how to test the parts?Any help is more than what i know.TY Chris

Ihad a similar model.. I've got a ballast you can try (Mine is a 25Q IL I believe) I'm not sure if it works or not..

I had to buy a few new lamps when I bought mine, so I just picked up a ballast also..

http://www.aquaneticsparts.com/">Here's their Parts Website</a>

probably not a bad idea to get more gaskets also...

Thank you so much for the offer.I'm not sure when I will be getting up that way but I will let you know if I do.Or maybe I will see you at the Club meet?I could use some info from you guys that have this kind of knowledge,I know I'm always asking questions all the time but its the only way I can learn.I couldn't find a owners manual online, well i did but they wanted to sell it to me for 14.95$

Well I took the cover off the ballast and it looks fine no signs of over heating or bulges on the transformer,so I think its fine.I took the ends off the 25il and plugged it up,the bulb is barely lit, when the starter flashes so does the bulb but it wont stay lit it just keeps flashing? Can any one point me in the right direction please.

I bought the owners manual.. so I have a copy...

(sell you a copy for $7.00)

:lol2:

Wow thats funny hugh,I just joined ARC not even a month a ago cause how thankful I am of this club helping me out,and I couldnt have done it with out yall, but now that Im a member Its funny how no one has offered any help on this subject except some body trying to make a buck:shout:.Im so close to having this new 150 complete even though I lost my job the day I bought the set up!This is my new found passion,Im selling and trading every thing I can to finish this bad boy,the water is good and salty, water parameters are good, rock is great, sump is plumed and pumping nothing but love. All my live stock and corals cant wait to move in,all I need Is a heater, some cheap parts for the UV if I can figure out what I need, and a light fixture Im picking up Monday on a great deal.I dont blame you for trying to recoupe some of your investments its just been a strugle trying to finish this project after losing my job.TY all for help Chris

You could always try a cheap 25 watt flourescent light and see if that fires up. If it does then you just need a new bulb. You mention you have a starter, so that eliminates the need to add one (when I worked at a fish store, we were always adding them to the fixtures). As you've probably learned, they don't make or sell those anymore, but you can buy parts here...

Good idea!I will do that.Hey do think the starter is good by it flashing and making the bulb flash?Or does it have to stay lit to make contacts?Oh and I'm thinking the trans former is good cause the bulbs trying to come on but not sure?TY for the input.

For what it is worth, I have a Emperor aquatics 25w and I had a similar issue. Light flickering, but not firing one day. I thought the bulb was bad - maybe 14m old, so I bought a new one. It didn't resolve it, so the next was the starter that had the small light ... even though it did flicker like it was starting (sounds like yours). That resolved it.

The starter is WAY cheaper than the ballast. Go though the process of elimination with the cheaper parts. In my case I should have started with the starter, but I needed a new bulb very soon anyway.

+1

My money says it's the starter too.

Cool, thanks for the input guys.I will replace the starter and see if that fixes it cause it cant be much.Where could I find a starter for it?Some one said that they don't sell them any more.

for the record, I was offering you access to the information at half cost (as though we were to have split the cost originally)..

it didn't come free to me, and I couldn't find the manual anywhere either (because most of these units have long since been replaced by their owners).

I wasn't "trying to make a buck".. I was trying to be nice..
sorry you took it the wrong way..

Thank you very much,as I said I understand.I would do the same thing its just that I tried so hard for two days straight to figure this thing out and couldn't do it.Thank you for your offer and I'm sorry if I offended you.

I wasn't offended, just didn't want you to think I was looking to make money..

FWIW.. the manual wouldn't have helped you.. the units came fully assembled, there are no directions for troubleshooting with that regard.
