Need help on strange algae ID

I just really noticed this algea in my tank, and realized that it is everywhere in the lower light regions of my tank. It is very brittle, and can be brushed off the rocks easily, and grows very short and thinly across the rocks. It does not grow in high light, but is starting to grow in my refugium, and all in the nooks of the rocks. Here is a pic of it, as best I can do:

I could not find it on melev's id page, and I thought it was bryopsis of sorts but doesnt seem to match any pics...
 
I see that pretty often in the dark corners of reef tanks. I'm not convinced its an alga, but I'm not sure what it is.
 
I've always referred to it as "grunge". No idea what it is for sure but I always thought it might be some type of micro sponge.
