I just started a new tank for coral only. I already have all the pieces I want in there in another tank. I was just wondering if I still have to cycle this tank, that only has Live sand in it?

yes, you still have to create the nitrogen cycle for any tank to be successful.

thanks. I was told otherwise when I bought this tank, but still didn't seem right to just start putting corals in.

If you have live rock that has been cycled, and taken from an established system then it dramatically lessens the amount of time it will tank the tank to cycle.

If you are only transferring over live sand, then Yes, you will need to let the new system cycle.

Well I got new live sand, but I have the rock and coral already in a well established tank. I was told I could just put the sand in, take some water from the other tank with about half new water, and add the rock and coral?

As with most things in this hobby, patience is a virtue!

This is especially true with corals. I'd take it slow and let the new tank go through it's nitrification cycle and then start adding any corals. The more stable the parameters of the new tank, the better chance of success.

Thanks, you have all been very helpful. I will for sure use your advice and let it cycle before I add anything to it. I don't want to be replacing anything.
