I'd like to make a carbon filter that I can connect outside any tank just for the occassional need. Has anyone done this? Any ideas?

Go to Home Depot's water purification section. Get a canister and a carbon filter and conenct to a pump.

Thanks for the ideas! I went to HD and Lowes today and Lowes has a canister filter that I think will work. I have a Hot Magnum filter that I'm going to try to modify first though.

Here is a plug n play system that is cheap.

I got the phosphate reactor from aquabuys and it is doing great. Took care of most of my algae in a week. I am going to start alternating phosban and carbon to help keep ever thing clean.

Friday, I picked up the ViaAqua Poly-filter that Kirk suggested. It looks like it should do the job.
