I'm finally getting my reef tank going. Leak test is done and I'm making a bunch of RO water. I need a few smaller sized choice pieces of live rock to seed the pukani dry rock I already have.

Who in town has the best selection of available live rock?

Thanks!

Pure reef had a nice stock in when I was there last weekend. Heading there again tomorrow to check out the new stuff.

man don't seed your rock with live rock, I've never understood why people do this. All you get from doing that is pest IMO. Just let it do its thing. You waited this long and started with a clean system why jeopardize all the hard work. I'll never put a "live rock" from a store or another reefer in my tank. Ask around and see what opinions you get.

Edit: I bought a whole setup from a guy. He used all BRS dry macro rock. He seeded it with one lil ole piece of tonga rock. Guess what he got from it. Aptaisia and nudis. I put some of the rock in my clean system that I managed to keep clean for over a year. I thought he didnt do the seeding thing and it was all dry when he started. Big mistake I got what he had. I knew better but I thought he didnt seed with a live rock. I'm in the middle of redoing my tank that been up for a year and a half because of it and another certain pest that I got.

I've had nothing but good luck with Atlanta Aquarium and The Aviarium. They're almost across the street from each other, give them both a look if you're in the Duluth/Norcross area.

Thing is though, you can get pests from any introduction: a 1mm stem of bryopsis on a frag plug, or even floating around in fish bag water. A baby aiptasia on a frag mounted on a piece of rubble. Nudibranchs on zoa frags or acropora eating flatworms and/or their eggs on living coral frags. Dip stuff and you may not get it all even then. I'm just saying that you can minimize, but never truly eliminate, the risk of pests entering your system.

Check out my post in the sponsor forum for Blue Planet. They just got in some awesome LR.

Thanks smallblock. I had not considered that route bit I may take your advice. I will be using live sand. So would you add anything to kick off the cycle? Coraline?

Thanks for the help.
