I just bought a small needle nose hawkfish and have been wanting to add a decorative shrimp or 2 like coral banded shrimp to my 125 reef tank. Will the needle nose kill my shrimp or can they co-exist?
Thanks,

Scott

needle nose hawkfish + decorative shrimp = happily fed needle nose hawkfish

needle nose hawkfish + big coral banded shrimp = the rest of the tank being bullied by the coral banded shrimp

needle nose hawkfish + 2 big coral banded shrimp = Ongoing UFC in your tank

The only thing a big coral banded shrimp will not attack and eat is Chuck Norris.

I've been keeping shrimp with long nose hawk fish for years without any problems at all. Maybe I have been lucky....

Yes, most definitely. Long nose hawks are murderous to shrimp almost all the time.

I also have a longnose hawk and coral banded shrimp that have lived together for about 2 years. The coral banded was in there first and I believe that is the key. I have added several cleaners and pepps to never be seen again.
