Well I got my 240 gal tall last weekend and got started on cutting out the wall this weekend, there a few things you should know about this build before we start.

1) My house is about 150 years old and nothing is level or plumb!!!

2) I have to go under my house and pour concrete footers to support this tank.

3) I have to put in a drain in the floor because I already had a flood that cost the insurance company about $16,000.00 for new sheet rock and hardwood floor.

4)I going to be turning my home office into my new (fish room).

5) I have to install about (6) new circuits for this tank.(Good thing I'm a electrician)

And,

6) My wife is totally cool with the whole thing!!!:yay:

Now it's going to take some time to do this so I will post updates as I do them.
So like I said earlier I started cutting in the wall this weekend and the side of the room you are seeing is the fish room side.
It doesn't look like I did much but I had to make sure it was perfectly level and plumb because I need this tank to fit when I bring it in side the house.

O.K,I'm having trouble uploading my pictures and I'll post them as soon as I figure it out.I think it's a problem with my server.

Wow, a lot of prep going into this one.

Looking forward to seeing the build.

:)

O.K. let's try it this time

Very, very cool! I am the wife here who wanted to do it, and the husband said no! Resell on the house and BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!

I got my razor blades and tank silicone today,so I'll be scraping and re-siliconing the tank soon.

Well I didn't mention that the tank is used and the silicone in the corners is a little worn out so I'm going to scrap it off and re-do it,the bottom corners look good because it's been under sand for a while and the overflows need a little work too.
I'll post some pictures tonight if I get a chance to work on it,my daughter has a school project I have to help her with first.

Having been in this hobby only about 7 months -- I'm really impressed with this undertaking. I look forward to your updates!

Cool man, good luck with everything. What are the tank dimentions? This is going to be a cool build!

Make sure you scrape every bit of silicone off, if you miss some, it won't hold and you'll have a big mes son your hands.

Thanks geno,I'm ruuning 2-75gals,1-30gal, and 1-10gal,so I figured if my wife would let me have a fish room she could have her living room floor space back!!!LOL

It is 72"x31"x24",with 2 corner overflows,it's 232 gals to be exact but it will also have a 75 gal sump,so total volume will be about 315 gal.

Steve I shouldn't have to get the silicon out from in between the glass right?I think I can get it out of the corners and then re-do it without messing with stuff between the corners?

Is that in a basement? it looks like 2x6 construction. Something to think about is you need as many Jack studs under that header that you pulled out. Kinda hard to see what you did according to the pictures but from here it dosn't look like you have enough support. I'm also assuming its load bearing.

johnr, this is the back side of my living room,it's a very old house so I guess it's almost a 2x6 wall. This used to be the outside wall before the house was added onto and the spot I cut out used to be part of the back door.
I put in 3 2x6 header boards with the jack studs on the sides being 2x10 ,and I will be adding more jack studs on the outside of what you see in the pictures. When I get time I'll try to post some better pics.
Thanks for looking and helping me out.

HOly crap you wsted no time. In about 2 months I will be coming to you for frags it looks like.

If you get a chance, you should post a pic of your house, too. I cant believe it is 150 years old! That is insanely cool.

Wow! I think an elephant could stand on that floor no problem. That is some nice craftsmanship.
