Okay...this post is a bit late but better late than never. I am setting up a 300g DD tank that I ripped out the corner overflows on to convert to a peninsula style tank. I've got just about everything that I need with the exception of a skimmer and I need 2 additional Ecotech Radions.

So after ripping out the corner overflows, I bought 2 square peices of 1/4 inch plate glass and used silicone to cover up the holes in the bottom in each corner. I then drilled one side of the tank and installed a Synergy Reef ghost overflow. The overflow is awesome. The footprint inside the tank is almost nonexistent. I bought plumbing pieces and am now ready to start putting it all together.

After a few days of allowing the silicone to cure...I decided to do a leak test today. I decided to fill it up just below the overflow line because I wanted the plate glass and silicone to undergo the pressure of a full tank experience. That said all was well with the exception of a small leak from the bulkhead on the ghost overflow. This is most likely due to a loose bulkhead. I was only able to hand tighten but will get an adjustable wrench and fix this. My plan is to let the water sit for a few days just to be certain were good.

In the meantime I plan on completing my plumbing but would like some help on the overflow. I would like to do a herbie method or bean animal but I'm not quite sure how it all works. I mean I get the concept but just need clarity on a few things.

Enough reading. Here are some photos for your viewing experience. I'm open to suggestions and or criticism so please chime if you like.

Thanks!!

Very nice setup. That looks like a very nice place to put the tank.

Is the 1/4" glass enough to cover the holes on the bottom with?

The overflow is setup to do a Bean. But you only need a gate valve on the full siphon line. You can add the extra one if you want but the open channel doesn't need one.
What size bulkheads came with the Ghost kit to connect the 2 boxes? I just got an overflow from Exotic Marine Systems and mine are 3". The kit came with acrylic wrenches for 3 and 1-1/2" bulkheads. if the Ghost has 3" too your welcome to use the wrench to tighten those up. Here's a shot of the kit with the wrenches.

Thanks. I think the 1/4 inch glass is sufficient. It basically supported by the bottom of the tank with the exception of the 2 holes that was for the drain. I've filled the tank and it has been sitting for a few days now just to make certain and were good to go.

That said, I could use the 1 1/2 inch bulkhead wrench. Thats what I have on my overflow. Let me know where your located and I will see if I can borrow it. Thanks.

Yes. I am going to be skinning the stand in the next week or two. I plan on getting a really nice grain of wood and a buddy of mines is gonna build the stand and canopy. He is also building the side price to hide the plumbing etc. Then I plan on staining it.

Following - I'm doing a similar build once we move out to California in the fall.

So I haven't updated in quite some time but lots of progress and photos to share. I will start by getting to the photos and follow up with thoughts on the build.

These are just a few shots. Some shows the stand, canopy and remaining structure on the tank and others show it in the garage being prepared for staining and poly.

Here are some shots of inside the tank. Any feedback or criticism in reference to the build and or what's going on inside the tank is welcomed.
