I've got an old aquarium originally set up for salt water, that I wanted to give my son. He wants to set it up for freshwater plants and fish, perhaps discus or angels.

The lighting system consists of:
4 - CFL 9 watt 5000 k lamps
4 - CFL 9 watt Blue lamps
2 - CFL 39 watt 4100 k lamps

We've got a lot of work to do, but is this spectrum good for this new tank or should we be looking for different bulbs. Not really interested in going with T5 or T12, LED etc. as we're trying to keep our costs down and we'd like to use the equipment we have for now if possible. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

awesome you should be fine ive been researching the discus forever,,,,,,,, and they do well in a well lite area i would so go the discuss route they are beautiful but yes you will be good with your lighting system cant wait to see more!!!!

Hey I know you said you didn't want to go with LED's but if you decide to do so... Petsmart has A LOT of their LED's on clearance!!!
