I purchased the demo marco rock from the person who won it at the swap. Along with the cement.

Im playing around with it before I start cementing. Im trying to cover about 3-4 ft of my 6 ft tank with a really open aquascape.

Here are a few pics.....thoughts?

I looks pretty boring, because there are no pics!!!

Edit: wow - those pics are huge...and shows all the junk in my garage!

I like the first one but not too happy with the 2nd one yet

I agree, the first one is a keeper. Its the "bridge" on the second one that bothers me. I would take that piece out and turn the structure on the left about 45 degrees to the right and swap one of the rocks from the pile on the right with the bridge. You might have to play with it for a while.

I had my marco rock all set up outside the tank exactly how I wanted it. Once I put it in the tank, it took several days to get it the way I liked it and it was totally opposite of what I had to start with.

I would be happy if my garage looked that clean. Of course with 2 sets of 120+/- tanks, stands and canopies setting in there it doesn't help. LOL

First one is nice. Second one needs an arch, not a bridge imo. If you want to do a bridge I think the left and right side of the bridge should not be higher than the middle. Should all be flat.

I plan on using the acrylic rods and cement to keep it in tack in one nice peice.

I agree with everyone on the 2nd, needs work. Some of the rocks were cut flat so it doesnt look natural quite yet.

I vote for the second...you've got more usable real-estate on it for coral placement, and it just looks more interesting in my opinion.

Plus if you have shy livestock that like to hole up in your rockwork there's still a chance you'll see 'em

Glad you were able to put it to use already! It would have literally sat in storage for so long if I had kept it.

keep pic 1 design and flip it upside down, hide a 2" tall pvc pipe support in the sand to prop it up.

i really like the high arch on the first one. All the set up i have seen fish love to "hang out" under caves, archways ect.

you want surface area to place corals.

look at it from the TOP DOWN and draw that shape.

then do the next one... which ever one has more area will probably be your best long term bet

Well, pulled the trigger. I was afraid or reconstructing it so I made the mortar and put it into a piping bag. I piped the slurry into the crevices of the rocks to bond together. Then I dusted the mortar with sand that matches my substrate.

Ill leave it sit for 24 hours and put into a cure tub for a week or two until I transfer to my tank.

Hope it holds!!

Here are some before and after pics
