Hey y'all-I'm off and running!:yay: I picked up some snails and crabs and a "Sea Hare" who's having a wonderful time cleaning my rocks of hair algae. he looks like one of the rocks, the only way I can tell him apart is by seeing his eyes wiggle. Right now he's in the middle of a big ol' bunch of hair algae...The snails are cleaning up the glass, and the hermit crabs are working on the gravel. They're all busy! I have my HOB refugium set up and added some live rock to that, along with the chaetomorpha that came with it. I bought a small terrarium hood and 15 watt bulb that sits on top of the refugium and runs all the time. I have the lights OFF (except for the moonlights) on the display tank in an effort to control the algae growth (per Greg at Optimum)-My water checks out fine, and I did a 10% change yesterday. If things continue to go well and the algae gets in control, I could be looking at adding a little bit of coral and maybe a couple of fish soon!!! I'd love to get a couple of clownfish possibly. Any ideas/thoughts on good starter corals??

Congrats!!! A few things though:

1) Watch that sea hare, once he runs out of food, yuou might really want to consider getting rid of him. If he dies it could mean the death of your entire tank.

2) It is best to run Chaeto on a lighting cycle, 12 hours on and 12 hours off. Most people do it the reverse of the aquarium lights to help out with PH problems but you want to give chaeto a time to "sleep". This is different them caulapera, which you want the light on 24 hours a day.

Good starter corals would be: Mushrooms, xenia, green star polyps, maybe some zoas, a leather or toadstool, pretty much all the soft corals...

Hey Barbara-How about Monday afternoon? I plan on driving over to Optimum and can stop by on the way there or back. OR whenever's good for you-I have the day off:yay:

Also, if they get upset or scared most sea hares can "ink" the tank with a purple ink that will irritate the rest of the inhabitants in the tank.

Here's a link to more information:
