New Edge tanks

Anyone here tried one of these as a Nano tank.

I really like the idea just would want it to be a little larger. The idea of being able to see from above is what really gets me. Seems like at the least you could do non photosynthetic corals.

That is pretty cool. Like to see that in a 30g or larger. I'm sure they'll have one that size one day.

They have/had one set up at Marine and Reef. I wouldn't bother to keep any light requiring corals, as you said.

Neat it concept, but poor in practicality, IMO. Remionds me of a Frank Lloyd Wright house I saw once. The opening to get into the tank is very small, and ham-fisted reefers would have a hard time.

Wonder if you could dismantle a 70w Viper or retro a 70w halide into that hood (or even make your own hood to fit over the glass). Seems like it'd be a sweet clam tank.

I agree with Charlie, I think heating would be a problem. I used a 150W sunpod over a 6G when I had my small nano up for the flame gobies and I had to hang it about a foot over the tank or radiating heat was a problem. I think they are very cool looking tanks though.

Then what about those LED panels on eBay. I know they don't have great PAR for deep tanks, but how tall is the Edge? 8"?

Meh, I had a 150w Sunpod over a 10g on normal legs and a little 4" fan kept the temp in check.

Wonder if you could use those CF bulbs from Walmart...they're like a 50/50. I guess it would make a cool zoa tank...something else to add to the xmas list...

you'd better stay ahead of the algae, because it'd be impossible to clean once it got away from you...

Looks like there would be no way to clean the coraline off the glass... Still would be cool with some non photosynthetic corals...

you're corners of the box and the 1/2" down at the sand would be purple/brown with algae in no time..


to me, that's part of the beauty of having an acrylic tank is the "seamless" look.. which would be completely lost if algae were growing in all the corners (accentuating them)

And yes it might "handle it" but you are going to be splashing water alot more on the lid than the sides it seems.

The Edge is glass. I think previous poster was referring to his own tank.

How bad are you guys' algae problems? I clean my glass daily with a mag float (whether I see algae or not) and don't have any coraline on the front or sides...
