If you folks haven't noticed by now, I get bored doing things the way that they are supposed to be done.

Today, I converted my BRS dual reactor into a carbon and polyfilter reactor.

Why? Why not.

I am tired of messing with gfo, so I set up biopellets. So instead of running two chambers of carbon, I've decided to try this polyfilter reactor out.

First, I took apart my dual reactor and reversed the second canister. Instead of the flow coming up through the bottom of the chamber, it drips over the polyfilter. In order to get the most use of the polyfilter, I used some shears and cut it into small cubes.

The water flows up through the carbon, and then trickles over the polyfilter cubes.

Haha yes! Except the polyfilters generally don't happily fit in a canister filter.

You could, but I am pretty unhappy with the BRS dual reactor. You know the phrase buy cheap but twice? This applies. The gfo clogs the reactor like crazy, and I was advised that the biofilm from the biopellets clogs the dual reactor even faster.


Plus, why would I waste time with the dual reactor for bio pellets when I have this!?

I have had my BRS reactor for about 2 years now with no problem (knock on wood)!! Guess thats why the pellet reactors are so $$

I'm sure that I would be content with the dual reactor if I had never played around with other models. Ignorance is bliss
