Here is the dealio...

I am picking up a 48X12X12 glass frag tank. I currently have a 40 Breeder on its front with the back cut out shown here:

I have a Outer Orbit 150W 10K w/2X65W Sunpaq PCs for light. I want to be able to maintain the same growth that I get out of this fixture with my new frag tank. I obviously can't use the same fixture, too short and too wide. What suggestions does the peanut gallery have? 6X54W T5? 2X150W MH w/T5 Actinics? Any suggestions welcomed! Thanks for looking!

Forget actinics on a frag tank. just go with 2 x 150W 10k or if you need the looks go for a 250W x2 20k bulb.

I have the same 33 long as my frag/refugium with an outer orbit 4x65 watt light. I am going to gut the light and install three 70w retros and two 54w t5ho actinics.

This might be a bit overkill, but I have heard that the best bulb around it that size is the 175W 15K Iwasaki. I understand that the color is outstanding, and the par is crazy, but you would have to run an IceCap ballast.

you think 70W is enough on a 12" tank? The reason I ask is that's the same hight as the frag tank I am getting.

With only a 12" depth you should be able to get all the light you need with either the 2 X 150w MH or 4 X 54w T5s. Another thing to consider might be to use the 150w you have now on one side and some 24" 24w T5s on the other side.

I say go with the 2x150 DE's You know how they will work on your tank, why change what works?
