im new to salt but have been freshwater for several years. working on research to decide where i am gonna start

You found a good place to start. Read and read and read. Talk to a lot of people, everyone does it a bit different but no one is wrong.

Oh by the way welcome.

my biggest concern is going too small with my build! i hate seeing all the posts of people upsizing within months!

well id like to go as big as i can but keep price down so i can spend my money in other places to make it nice.

Welcome! Info is easily obtained here and everyone is eager to help answer questions. Lot of good books out there too

:welcome: Glad you are here. While you are doing research, you should be able to quickly get your post count up.

If you are on a budget, I would recommend you buy used. You can get a lot more bang for your buck. Check out the buying and selling forum on here. There is always someone selling a tank, lights, protien skimmers, etc. in all different sizes. You should easily find something to fit in your space and budget. You have plenty of time to wait for the right deal, as you are learning.

How big are your fresh tanks? I recommend a larger tank for beginners as it is more forgiving of mistakes, costs more though

buy used and you can get the tank you want and make it nice

Oh - and WELCOME!!

What do you want to keep? Just fish, FOWLR or do you want a reef with corals and live rock? i would start with just fish and the live rock and learn, learn, learn.. FO set ups are the least expensive Saltwater tanks to maintain until you get your knowledge up..

2 55 gal and one 125 gal fresh set ups and fish and LR would be nice and it will surely have to be used for me to build a nice set up

Then I would recommend a 125 or larger for your Saltwater tank

Rob is awesome and that 90g is a STEAL! Heck, the light is almost worth the price of the system.
