Hey all I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Chris and I am new to the saltwater hobby. I have always wanted a reef tank but never got the chance to do one. I have recently purchased a 160 gallon tank and stand that was used for freshwater so I am in the process of making it reef ready. I have built an overflow for it since its not drilled and ran all of the plumbing. I will be using a 55 gal tank as the sump refugium. I was hoping to have it start the cycle a few weeks ago, but I bought a used skimmer and rodi unit online and the skimmer was shattered during shipping and the rodi unit needed all new filters. I have been lurking around on here and have made some purchases from some of the members (all really nice). I have already made my money back from becoming an ARC member with my first purchase from Air Water and Ice. I am going to do a build thread soon as I have been taking some pics along the way, but I just wanted to say hello and hope to see some of you at the meetings. I feel real lucky to have found this site as everyone seems so nice and willing to help one another.

Welcome Cheis. Hope to see you at the meeting on Monday. I am easy to spot. I am the short fat balding sexy guy. LOL

Welcome to ARC! I know it would set you back some but I would drill the tank before setting up. I was in the same situation as you and my biggest regret is not setting up a internal overflow.

Drilling...
I dont know who made it and there is a sticker on the bottom that says tempered. I am not sure if the whole thing is or just the bottom. But I didnt want to risk it.

Usually it's just the bottom that's tempered. You can always drill the back panel and run plumbing that way. There is a pretty good video on bulk reef supply on how to do it.

Welcome to the club and the hobby I think I speak for everyone when I say that you've found a lifelong addiction. I've been doing this for 7 years with no signs of slowing down and there are members here that have been in it for more than 20 years:wow2:

I'm up in Acworth too. Welcome to the forums! As Picoreefguy said, it is a lifelong addiction. I've been keeping aquariums all of my life and I have worked in the industry for almost 15 years now. I've still got fish that I've had for the past 10 years who are going strong. It is a very rewarding (although frustrating at times) hobby.

Welcome!! My mom and step dad live up in Ackworth.
It's worth it to drill the tank, and a whole lot easier to do it now that down the line when you have it set up, I did mine this weekend just take it slow and with the right tools or there are some LFS that will drill tanks, normally the bottom glass is the tempered, but if you can figure out who manufactured the tank I'd give them a call and ask.

Welcome aboard!!!

Oh yeah. Go ahead and drill that baby in the back, and do a bean overflow. I plumbed my 120 without drilling it, and wish I'd done the bean overflow now. LOL...

Here are some pics of the tank and stand and what was the skimmer. lol
