Hello all I have been lurking here for quite awhile and am getting ready to take the plunge. My plan, which is going to take awhile to come to be is a 180 gallon in the foyer of my home with the sump in the basement under the stairs. We are in the process of finishing the basement and I want to put in the plumbing lines behind the wall before the sheetrock guys come so they can patch the holes. My plan is to put in the drain and return lines up from the sump room up to the floor in the foyer so when I finally get a tank and put it in I can just cut out around the plumbing I have already put in and connect it to the display tank. So my questions are what size pipes should I use and how many? If I have a tank with corner overflows do I need a drain and return for each one, or just connect them both to the same drain line in the wall and do the same in reverse with the return? Hopefully my questions make sense, thanks for your help.

I have a remote sump also, I use 1" for return and 1 1/2" for drain.

I think you can use 1" for return and split it to (2) 3/4" loc line nozzle and for the drain use (2) 1" all the way back to the sump or bump them in a 2" line back to the sump.
it also depends on your main pump and distance

here this might help
