I've been reading this forum for a while, and decided to introduce myself. My name is Don and I retired from the Navy in 2006 after 24 years. Right now I'm just an overpaid housewife:thumbs:
I just started my first saltwater/reef tank and can't wait to start putting stuff in it. Right now all I have in it is my CUC and a couple of coral frags. Both of my son's have tanks, and they kind of talked me in to it. My youngest son and I went to the frag meet at All Things Aquatic and met some really cool people. Cliff (the owner) is a great guy and has been providing me some guidance on my tank. My main hobby before this was hot rods, I've owned numerous Mustangs and a Lightning truck. You think aquariums are an expensive hobby, try cars:eek:
Here's a pic of my tank, pretty bare.

You think cars are expensive?
Wait until the SPS or chalice bugs bite you...

In any case - welcome aboard, looking forward to meeting you - another westside reefer!

I am into both hobbies Hot Rods, and a full blown reef tank ,throw a girlfriend on top of that.It gets pricey.

Welcome aboard Don! :)

I got out in 99 after 10 in the Navy. SW is A LOT more fun when you don't get deployed on it!

Is that your Chevelle in your avatar? If so, that's sweet. I used to have a 68 Plymouth GTX, wish I would have kept it, MOPARS are stupid expensive now.
Ever go out to the Dallas dragstrip before it closed?

My dad has a lightning truck. He built a 72 chevy custom, and bought the lightning, I guess he wanted a newer sporty truck. To bad chevy didn't do something a little nicer with the ss silverado, kind of a joke! Hope to see you here for the box o crap swap this weekend!

What year Lightning? I had a Gen 1, 1995. 351 with a blower. It hauled for a pickup. A friend of mine has a newer Lightning that puts out 600 to the tires. Pretty wicked.
The helmet came with the tank. I offered it to my wife for her freshwater tank, but she didn't want it. Said it must be a "guy thing". I love that thing:D

I hear ya. I was in the TAR program, so I was kind of lucky. I did a lot of staff duty, AIMD, and was a VR maintenance Chief.

How long have you owned it? What have you done to it?
I got an 85 Mustang coupe. Heads/cam/headers/etc, the usual.
Been working on it for 3 years. I need to find someone that can tune a Barry Grant carb though.

Those came stock with the blower, they're pretty fast. I was never a fan of the looks of them, preferred the older body style.I like the looks of the Chevy SS, they just needed to put the vette motor in it or something to make it worth of the SS name.

Here's a pic of the engine bay of the coupe. I also redid most of the interior, added Sparco Torino seats :

Those are pretty sweet. I also have a 68 Ford F100. I always loved that body style.

Ummm, I don't know what SPS or chalice is:confused2:
I know some of that a lot of this stuff is $$$$$.
I saw in the mag that I got at Cliff's a coral that went for $300 a frag:eek: Purple hornet or something like that.

Welcome aboard, I'm sure your used to hearing that, I did 4 years in the Navy, I was on an aircraft carrier ( USS Forrestal CV-59 ) 4 years was enough for me, the sad part is, I'd be retiring this time next year.

Ya, but if you're married you'd have hated it. The sea/shore rotations have gotten bad. Depending on what your rate was of course.
I was a TAR (Training and Administration of Reserves), now known as FTS (Full Time Support). My sea service counter reads all 0's. As a VR sailor I still got to do DETs in Japan and Italy, and even did a 3 week DET to Alaska. Our squadrons flew as aggresors against Air Force pukes.
I got lucky, they have been sending FTS guys to Iraq to relieve some of the load on the Army. My nephew just got out of his A school in the Air Force and they are sending him to be a Humvee escort driver in Iraq. Even the Chair Force isn't immune anymore.

My neighbors son is in the Marine Reserve. I think he's been to Iraq once and Afghanistan 2 or 3 times. One weekend a month, two weeks in the summer, eh?
