I have a new hitchhikers i have never seen. It's hard to get a good pic because they are so small. In the research i've done it has to be Vayssierea felis. I don't see anything on the ARC about them.I estimate there are over 5000 of them in my tank. They appear to be eating algae.

it's really hard to tell from the photo what we are looking at but its hardly like you picked up that many nudis as hitch hikers, not saying it isn't, if that what they look like in the link sure but if not look into red bugs which i would say is more likely and not good.

i cant really tell for sure from the pic but they look like what people commonly call brown or rusty flat worms. look up acoel flatworms and see if its similar to what you have. if so you can use a product called flatworm exit to get rid of them. while they're not directly harmfull to anything in the tank they reproduce in huge numbers (like you said, theres prob 5000 of them) and doing so can cover things and use up a lot of the oxygen in the tank and when they die they release a toxin into the water

So as quickly as they appeared they are gone!

I assume they hatched, didn't have what they needed and died.

They were not crustaceans, so i think red bugs are out and they were solid red, they were slug like.

What ever it was i guess its better to be gone.

The photo looks a bit like red planaria to me.
