New Lights...what can I support?

Hey all,

I picked up 3x 175 watt MH pendant lights for my 120 gallon tank recently. Currently I have LPS and softies in the water...can I support SPS with these? The water is about 20" deep with the lights 10" more off the surface. I have 3 tags and mean ol damsel also.

Ya got the lights, might as well use them. Welcome to the wonderful world of SPS!

You can probably keep most SPS with those lights, but I would not expect incredible results from them. They won't color up and grow rapidly like they will under more intense lighting.

What spectrum are your lamps?

I'll say you can grow mostly anything, but a lot of it depends on the bulbs and reflectors. With my set up, I could grow anything I wanted, had the color, PAR and the growth of those "higher wattage" people too. Tell us a little more about the bulbs you plan on using and the reflectors you have.

Well, i got 3 pendants hanging with 10k bulbs. My tank is separated into 3 by those bracing bars so it works well. I get full coverage across the tank.
