Hi all,

My name is Matt H. and I'm new to this group. Currently, I'm in the middle of downsizing from a 40 gallon long to a Waterbox 20 gallon All In One with a Radeon XR30 G2 light. Seemingly everyone I talked to recently recommended this group, so you all must be a great resource. Despite having two tanks before this, I'm still learning a lot so I'll appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Matt H.

Welcome to the club! I hear water box aquariums are great, but why the downsize?

Well, welcome and the learning never stops. If you've got any questions or, better yet, can answer a question or two for other, don't hesitate to post. I'd be curious to see what you've got going on with the 20g. I've been thinking about starting up a small tank in my living room for quite a while now. You could be the example that pushes me over the edge!

I downsized because the dining room, where the tank sits, is now also a 2 person office. In addition, the old tank was showing it's age. Since I got the 40g for free, I'll likely give it away for free if anyone wants it.

Although you have been here a little while, Welcome. The tank looks great!
Thanks! I'm really happy with the tank purchase. The rocks are all covered in brown algae now - so there's something wrong, but I haven't figured out what is causing that yet. My guess is that it's an algae issue and that something is imbalanced but I'm not sure what.

It's all part of the new tank uglies. It will come and go for a few months, and unfortunately, you will probably encounter algae, dinos, and/or cyano. I don't recommend adding corals if you can help it till your tank gets through the first couple of months.

That's a lot of light over such a small tank.
Yeah, I had the light from the previous tank so the brightness is set lower on this tank and maybe it is still too much light. In terms of physical size, it's a little inconvenient when reaching into the tank for cleaning. I also like the smaller lights like the Radion XR15 or the Kessil a160we and might downsize to one at some point. What would you recommend?

I would keep it as is. Issue with a single light source like the xr15 and a kessil would be shadowing. With two pucks on the xr30, it will help prevent this.
