I've lived in Atlanta for 7 years and my wife and I were active reefers in PA--with a 200g display tank and a 15g nano for years. When we left PA, we gave most of our soft corals to a fellow reefer--who still has most of them. Now that my son is 9, we have decided to start a new frag tank and start teaching him how to run the system and care for the corals--while acquiring some frags of our old livestock back from our friend in PA.

We live next to a decent salt water store in Austell, but have not yet explored the other stores in Atlanta. Recommendations for finding the healthiest corals in Atlanta would be welcomed.

All the equipment we need to start our 10-20G frag tank arrives tomorrow so we'll be setting her up and cycling for a bit. We had a T5, korelia, and RO/DI unit left over from the old days we'll be incorporating with a canister filter and heater. Hopefully, we will set up a thread for the tank so other newbies or people with kids can follow along.

Hi welcome to ARC. Personally, I like nemo ( Indian trails ) and atlanta aquarium. I little drive for u ( from austell) but to me, it is all worth it

Welcome, lets see some Pics. I have a 6 year old son that just got his first freshwater tank for his room and he is a great help with the saltwater tank maintenance.

+1 on Ricky's recommendations. Also keep a look out for members selling stuff, some have a pretty good reputation for healthy, pest free unique corals. The Club and Rit over at Atlanta Aquarium have teamed up fro a mini Expo later later in October, several vendors will be there so that might be a worthwhile trip.

Thanks everyone for the info! Will probably post a tank build thread this weekend and link to it here. Pictures of course!

Yeah, we need to revisit them. Went there several years ago. Next to the hobby store?

yeah, the ultimate goal of this project is to have a productive frag operation that will allow us to sell and trade (mostly trade) to help offset the cost of our display system down the road. This worked well for me in the past, but I fear he will be impatient with the time frame for growing out corals:)

Welcome.

I haven't been to every store in the area but I'd say the Shac and Atlanta Aquarium are really the only ones I'd want to buy coral at out of the ones I've been to.

I much prefer to get them from members.

Welcome to ARC, Pete!

Looking forward to seeing some thoughts and ideas from PA!
