Hi everyone,

I'm Angela. I'm currently researching my first reef tank. I'm looking to get a cube tank between 60-90 gallons. Either Marineland, custom, or something else if my research stumbles on it. I would like to be able to view the tank from three sides hence the search for a cube.

I have an active cat so once I find a tank, cat proofing it will be the next research topic. Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm not too fond of the big canopies so something more simple and less bulky.

When time allows I would love to join the club and meet everyone.

Angela

Welcome to the ARC. Check with Dave (Acroholic) and see if he has any clear mesh left. It makes for a very nice cover to keep the fish in and the cat out.

Welcome to the ARC Website Angie. There are many great Sponsors in the area.

The $30 cost of ARC membership can be made up when you buy you first equipment or tank from a sponsor, as you get 10% off most purchases with it. Also, Members do not have post count minimums and can use the FS forums right away.

Welcome Angie! ARC has a lot of great people in the club and their willing to help with all kinds of questions(no such thing as a dump question). I have Dave's mesh on 4 of my tanks (6 cats). It keeps the fish in and the cats out:D Holley

Welcome Angela. really 3 sides can be just as easily accomplished on a rectangle as a square. A lot more options, and generally less expensive.

and before you buy anything, ask an experienced reefer as opposed to just listening to a lfs.

and, join first, like Dave said......you'll get a nice discount that will pay for itself.

(oh, and except for the clear mesh topping for your tank from Dave, don't listen to anything hackman has to say.........just look at him? freak, for sure)

After the cat falls in the tank once he or she will leave it be lol, it was one of the funniest things EVER!!!!

Thanks everyone. Greatly appreciate the welcome and advice!

Mysterybox - any suggestions on tank sizes and dimensions? The space I have can easily handle 36-40" wide. I have not seen any tanks that are 24" deep with this width. Any thoughts?

Try Chris at Fishscales, otherwise I'll check around later after work.

Welcome to the ARC - I'm new, too. I originally wanted a 60 gal cube but found just a super deal on a traditional 65 gal (aquarium pre-drilled w/ overflow, canopy, stand, sump, pumps, skimmer, heater, lighting, etc for $200) so I decided to do that instead.

Extremely fun and rewarding hobby. Enjoy!

Welcome :)

We have cats and aquariums here. It hasn't been much of an issue for us since our cats are older. When we had kittens though, all it took was a cat falling in/almost falling in a tank to make them respect the rules.

(I still have an awesome image burned into my brain from when our youngest cat was a kitten... I had oscars in a 55, and he liked to jump from a chair arm onto the glass top and watch them from above. Well one day I had taken off a glass top for water change ease and he did this great arc straight into the tank, totally submerged cat, came clawing his way back out, completely soaked... the image of the cat underwater flailing madly will be one I treasure for ages to come... good times.)
