I am new to the group. I had a 125 Salt Water tank that I was starting up about 17 years ago which I had to take down to move for a new job. After so many years I am getting back in the game with a 72g Bow Front.

I can say I have completly forgotton everything I knew about salt water tanks ( Not that I knew that much then. Just starting out ) and in reading the posts this is avery active group. Currently my tank has 60+ gallons of water about 1 1/2 inches of live sand and two LR's.

I live in Opelika Alabama ( Next to Auburn ) and I'm hopeing I can get away to attend the meeting tomorrow. Hopefully I will get to meet some of you at the meeting if I can get away from work to make the trip up 85.

Thanks
Foster

Mine is an intresting set up and I really hope I'm not in over my head. The tanks sits in a large living room ( House has an open floor plan ). The wife has mandated the tank stand to be a 100+ year old buffet ( She didn't want the normal stand. Something to do with them being ugly. ).

The tank is not drilled so there will be nothing under the tank. I am working with a guy in Montgomery Alabama to get a hang on the back filtration system that he says will work for me. I am want to do some corals and a few fish.

How difficult do you think this is going to be? I'm being told that if I do water changes often I should be in good shape. What do you think?

When your sleep patterns are as bad as mine you never really know what day it is.

No it wont be a problem, just a little unsightly because of all your equipment being visisble. Just get a good salt mix and do regular water changes and you'll be fine. Are you getting a canister filtration unit? Salinity is what i use and it is better tested than some of the other mixes, meaning every bucket has a target read out on it. Good stuff

I got off work way way to late to make the trip to the meeting tonight. I am just shy of two hours away from tonights meeting spot. With traffic there is just no way I could make it. Bummer I was really looking forward to the speaker and meeting some of the group.

The salt I started my take with is Oceanic. Filtration is a back hanger. The rear of my tank is aganist a wall so I should be able to place it in the middle and hide it some.

There are several hob refugiums availible, and some octopus hob skimmers also

Pshh, you could still make it up here in time, sorry we couldn't work out a carpool, but maybe next month!

You don't need a drilled tank to do a sump, we could do one fairly easily if you get a 20g long tank or something similar, and a HOB overflow unit.

Oh, and welcome!

Welcome. Perhaps your wife will change her mind about a stand when she sees (and hears) HOB equipment run compared to a sump. A custom homemade stand is always an option if you want it to become a piece of furniture that matches the room decor! There will be plenty more meetings for you to attend and I hope to meet ya soon!

Thanks to everybody for the warm welcome. I am looking forward to learning as much as possible from all of you.
