I am going to replace my sump with a new one I just finished and will have to turn off the return pump for a while. If I keep the powerheads running will I need to add an airline to the water? How much time do I have before I need to be complete and running again?

75 gal display
20 gal sump
10 gal fuge
15 gal frag
All plumbed into one sump

The majority of your flow should be from the powerheads so there shouldn't be any rush. If you haven't shut off the return in a while just make sure there will be enough room to handle the overflow back to the sump. I'd also take the opportunity to give the return pump a good cleaning.

BTW, I'm on heavy drugs right now so any advice from me should probably be ignored.

Thanks Bud but you must share your heavy drugs. Who helps you pick up these heavy drugs.

ha! I can attest to that! I tried talking to him yesterday and he was out of it! Get better soon dude!

I had done the same thing awhile back and had turned off the sump to my 210 for over 12 hours. I had the phs in the tank running full out and made sure that there was good flow. YOu should be fine.

You should have as long as it would need... I swapped my 20 long for a 55 under my 180.. Things didnt go to plan (had to cut alot of the plumbing away and redo it) it took about 5 hours and suffered no ill effects..

Bud, get well quick, we wouldn't want you to hurt yourself carrying that heavy "Stuff"

:yay: Phil

As a word of caution - time you have is realtive to your Bioload -

the more O2 consuming critters the less time - however given that reefs tend to run at near complete O2 saturation - I would say that on average you have more than 12 - 16 hours before ill effects are seen -

got to remeber the fish are shipped a long way in little bags and make it thru ok

I don't think so just a swap out and new plumbing, making it easier, but thanks for the offer and I will let you know.
