I am currently going through a divorce and want to get a tank in my new place for a beautiful hobby and to entertain my 2-year old daughter. I have been to warehouse aquarium and been doing some research to buy a tank. Anyone have any pointers to a new beginner?

I didn't really have a budget because I had no idea what I was doing. I had originally thought I would go with freshwater since saltwater seemed a bit overwhelming. But I have gone to a couple of stores and there is NO WAY I am not going to go with saltwater. The guy at the store told me to go with a fish only tank and start slow so I wouldn't waste money (I am going through a divorce after all and I have so little money to spend). But I want to get it going before I lose steam. I am thinking around $500-$750 for a complete setup. I have a space that is around 4' wide and I would like the tank to sit a little low for my 2 year old girl to enjoy it when she comes over. I don't know if there is a standard depth but 20" seems to be around what is good. I am in a new condo so I don't have a whole lot of space. I looked on craigslist but people seemed to be selling dingy tanks. Today the guy at the aquarium store told me to get on here and see what's going on.

I am taking down a 75 gallon reef tank to make room for my son and his 75 gallon reef tank. I have fish, corals, rock, sand and inverts. pm me if your interested I am a bit of a drive but I might make the trip for a deliver charge.

Welcome!

Optimum Aquarium off Barrett Parkway had a few used setups last time I was there. I've seen lots of complete setups here with fish and coral. Have a look at the older posts.

A 4' tank might be a bit tight if the space you have is exactly 4'. Might want to check into a 40 breeder. IMO, the dimensions are awesome for a smaller sized tank.

Good luck with your tank and Happy Reefing!

Welcome to ARC!
