I noticed this the other day and have no idea what it is.

Then I have a stary blenny that has been picking at my green star polyps. I moved them and he hasn't picked at it, but now they won't open back up.

Then a toadstool that still has not opened up...

I am new to all of this. Please help me.

Thank you!

Hard to tell by the picks but that looks like hair algae to me. How long has the tank been up? How much and how often do you feed?

I wouldn't worry about the GSP or mushroom. They will open up and go crazy as soon as the tank matures a bit. Then you won't be able to kill them. LOL

I am going on a cruise.....on my lawnmower around my yard.

It's been up for a month and a half now. I feed every other day. Is that too much? I keep hearing different things about feeding.

How would I get rid of hair algae?

And thank you!

How much do you feed each time. Are you using RO/DI water?

Most likely it is just new tank syndrome. Seems everyone battles algae a of all kinds in the first 6 months or so.

A half a cubes. It's the frozen cubes. And no I don't. I just condition it. And the water is good. I test it weekly.

I would really recommend RO/DI. If you can't afford a good one right now you can get a portable one from http://www.clearwaterclub.com">www.clearwaterclub.com</a> until you can get a better one. My guess is that the phosphates in the tap water are feeding the algae.

No problem. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Lots of smart people here who love to help. Wish I were one of them. :-)

Also you can get RO water from Publix which you could get by with until you can get a RODI unit

I had more algae problems in the beginning before I used RO / DI. I hook up a portable to the kitchen sink once a week for now to get what I need.

I think its purewaterclub

Chiming in to agree with the rest that its an algae. Most people do battle algae early on until the tank becomes established.

However, one thing I see time and time again on forums is the subjective answer of "good" for water quality parameters. What constitutes good for you? Again, that doesn't likely change our answers here, but just a warning that objective numbers will help us serve you better in the future.
