hey guys. i've been in FW for a while and thought i'd give SW a try. i recently got a 36g corner, 34x24x22. i've been reading that it may be hard to light it to keep corals and such so i thought i might try a FOWLR tank. im not very familiar with SW fish, so what would you guys recommend for this tank? i was thinking about 3-4 tank permitting. my fiance of course likes clowns so maybe something with them...

It wouldn't be difficult to light that tank at all. If a reef is what you really want, let's work on accomplishing that. It'll be much easier than you think.

Very true. There's enough people on here that can help with just about any situation you run into. If you are going to have clownfish, then you'd probably wind up getting an anenome eventually anyway...and that's where the reef keeping starts.

You can start with fish only, but you'll get a piece of live rock, and some mushroom will appear in a month or two and you'll be itching to upgrade.

I would say welcome to the club, but I think the more appropriate phrase is, "Welcome to the support group for reef-a-holics."

lol i've heard a FO tank wont last long. im kind of leaving this tank up to my fiance to what she wants. i have 125g, 55g, 75g, and 20g freshwater tanks :D im already addicted, just stepping into something a little more serious lol

Just be cautious of buying fish spontaniously at the LFS. There's a lot of different issues with SW fish than FW. Compatibility is the biggest.

Just remember to go slow. FW is a lot more forgiving than SW. And welcome to the club :)

Lighting that tank (for reef purposes) shouldn't be that difficult... T5's would probably work fine... And I agree 100% with everyone else here that if you start with a FOWLR it will only be a matter of time before you convert... so why prolong the inevitable, do it right the first time and do it now... And WELCOME we are glad to have you... (have you become a member yet :) )

Welcome to the club. As for lighting your tank.

If you've ever been to optimum aquarium, I'd assume so if your in kennesaw. They have some 175 watt bell pendents that would work good IMO

welcome.....you'll do fine. i have a 12 gal nano and while there have been challenges, my utilization of the knowledge of ARC members have made things so much better.there is a ridiculous amount of help and knowledge here....so use it.once again welcome to the grand and glorious hobby of REEFING.

When I found the ARC I intended to do a FOWLR... that lasted, oh, right about until the tank cycled. Welcome!

My FOWLR actually lasted 6 months...then Marine Fish had that 50% off sale a year and half ago....Next thing I know, I'm upgrading my lighting...heh
