New to the club

Hi All,

I recently got back into saltwater aquariums after a several year break. I had a FOWLR setup before, and now I am planning on trying a reef tank.

I purchased a 24g aquapod off of CL yesterday and added some live sand today. Unfortunately the tank didn't come with lights so I am in the market to purchase some that will adequately support a mixed coral tank. I am thinking of getting an LED fixture, but I have quickly become overwhelmed with what to look for in them. Hopefully some of you veteran reef keepers can steer me in the correct direction regarding what i should be looking for.

I would give you some advice, but...Roll Tide.

In all honesty though, ask 100 people about lights and get 100 opinions. I'd look for something cheap and used and just see how you like it. I bought something brand new, and it turned out not to be my favorite. If you buy used, in theory you can always sell it for roughly what you paid.

I am a big supporter of used T5 light fixtures. The bulbs are cheap to replace and easy to modify for changing taste/needs. LEDs are awesome though, and if not for the cost and research I feel I need before I can get proper ones.

JB I think every forum I join you are either already a member or you become a member. I tink its safe to say we have similar fish keeping interests.

To the Alabama fans i'm going to leave the smack talk until after November 24th when Auburn marches into T town and whoops the tides tail...

But seriously thanks for the advice, I will try to start a tank build thread pretty soon to update my progress. I have found a couple reasonably priced LED fixtures on Amazon that I am considering.

They look to be pretty much the exact same fixture. Anyone have any thoughts on these? At first glance they seem to be a good deal and more than adequate for a 24g aquapod.
